Street Theatre Art Training Program

Arts and Aesthetics are the simplest way of inculcating virtues in the minds of the public. With this in mind,our Principal, Rev. Dr. A. Nirmala Devi, in collaboration with ‘Buddhar Kalaikuzhu’ from Vedandhangal arranged for a three-day training program on ‘Street Theatre’ from 01.11.2018 to 03.11.2018. Mr. Manimaran and Ms. Jeyanthi trained 24 first year students of our College in Theatrical Arts, Folklore and Paraiyaattam. After this training our students staged their talents using these arts to raise their voice against Gender disparity, Child abuse, Female foeticide, Sexual abuse and Violence against women. All our student teachers felt empowered.

Human Chain Campaign for Child-line 1098

Our Secretary Rev. Sr. A. Magdalene Therese and our Principal, Rev. Dr. A. Nirmala Devi encouraged our student teachers to participate in the public human chain organized by Child-line 1098 on 16.11.2018near Palayamkottai bus stand under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jeyabalan. Our staff and students and those from St.Xavier’s College of Education(Autonomous), extended their hands to work together against child labour and child abuse. This captured the attention of the public and created awareness.

Rally on Plastic Awareness

St.Xavier’s College of Education in collaboration with our College and St.John’s College of Education organized a rally on plastic awareness on 25.09.2018. All the students and members of staff from these three colleges of education gathered and made the rally a success. Rev. Fr. Dr.G.Pushparaj SJ, Secretary and Rev.Fr.Dr.D.Thomas Alex SJ, Principal of St.Xavier’s College of Education had convened the rally. Our Secretary Rev. Sr. A. Magdalene Therese and our Principal, Rev. Dr. A. Nirmala Devi organized the awareness program. Mr. Venkatesh, Sub Inspector of Police, Tirunelveli was the Chief Guestof the program. The Procession went around Palayamkottai raising slogans and created awareness among the public. Dr. Selvakumar, Professor, St. Xavier’s college of Arts and Science, concluded the rally and addressed the gathering.

Cultural Competition

Bharat Institute of Education, Elathur, Tenkasi conducted an Edufest competition for Environmental Significance on 27th September, 2018. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to think out of the box as it gave a platform to display their vivid talents and learn more by interacting with others. 28 students of our college participated in various competitions.Our College stood third among the 23 colleges participated. Annammal College of Education and Annai Bharat Gas Service organized an inter collegiate cultural meet for Arts & Science and Educational colleges on 28.09.2018 at Subbiah Vidhyalayam Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi.More than 400 students from 21 colleges attended the one-day fest. Our students participated in 7 events.

Joy of Giving- Visit to Home for Street Children

Every child is a precious gift of God.Our first year B.Ed. students visitedSaranalayam, ‘a home for abandoned children and women’ in Tirunelveli on 29.10.2018. Rev.Sr.Dr.A.Nirmala Devi,our Principal organized the visit. Rev. Fr. Jeyabalan, Director of Saranalayam guided us to understand the history and objectives of the Home. Through this program our student teacherscould capture the ideas of child helpline 1098, child adoption, child abuse etc. which are very much useful in the career. On this day,our students experienced the “Joy of Giving,” by presentinggifts such as cloths, food materials, stationary items etc. to the 42 inmates of Saranalayam.Our students imbibed the humanitarian values through this Joy of Giving.

Visit - Thozhamai Illam for HIV positive children

Thozhamai Illam for HIV positive children as a part of extension activity. The less privileged children are visited regularly, motivated and if needed counselling is given.

Juvenile Home Visit

Based on the motivation given by Rev.Sr.Dr.A.Nirmala Devi, Principal of our College, a group of 25 B.Ed students visited the Juvenile Home with two faculty members on 22.12.2017. Our student teachers taught Tamil and English alphabets to them and depicted their concern for them by sharing eatables with them. Rev.Sr.Dr.A.Nirmala Devi regularly conducts value education and life motivation sessions to the delinquents as she is a member of the PMI – ‘Prison Ministry of India’, TamilNadu Unit. The Juvenile Home Superintendent rendered necessary support and guidance for this service.

Special School Visit

Our students visited the High School for the Blind, Florence Swainson School for Deaf and Dumb, St.Ann’s Rehabilitation center for Mentally Handicapped Children and the Bishop Sergeant Home and School for the mentally Challenged. This exposure provided the needed conscience regarding the less privileged sectors of the academic domain.

To provide first-hand experience to the students, the Department of History and Tamil visited Mahabalipuram, on 9.11.2019, guided by Dr.EstherMaragathamani, Assistant Professor of Tamil and Dr. Jeyasudha, Assistant Professor of History, the students realized the rich cultural heritage of our Nation.

A field trip to Kanyakumari was arranged on 16.11.19 by the departments of English, Biological science and Mathematics. Dr. E. C. Punitha, Dr. M. Maria Saroja, and Rev. Dr. L. Vasanthi Medona, the Associate Professors of the respective departments, planned meticulously to make the students experience the richness of Indian tradition.

Dr. Theresita Shanthi and Mrs. M.Gnana Kamali, Assistant Professors of Physical Science and Computer Science, organized an educational field trip to Trivandrum for students on 16.11.2019. The visit inculcated scientific inquiry in young minds.
